Report From Our President And CEO

Coastal Community had another solid and successful

year in 2011. In a year of mixed fortunes for the economy, we exited 2011 stronger, more confident and firmly focused on improving financial health, enriching people’s lives and building healthier communities. Our solid financial position and our employees’ dedication to building trusted relationships will help to ensure we remain strong for the people and businesses we serve and the communities in which we live.

I want to thank every single member and client for giving us the opportunity to serve you and for your feedback about your experience with your Coastal Community.

Building strong relationships by fully understanding the needs, goals and dreams of our members and clients as well as finding more ways to be helpful is at the heart of our vision and purpose. During the year, you expressed high—and increasing—satisfaction in our member and client surveys across a wide range of service areas. We are humbled by such positive feedback and recommit ourselves to doing even better in the year ahead.

Of course, none of our accomplishments would have been possible without the never-ending dedication of our employees. By making a meaningful difference in people’s financial health and in the well-being of their communities, our employees have once again proven that they are Coastal Community’s greatest strength. It is the commitment and excellence of our employees that builds trusting and lasting relationships with our members and clients. I’m deeply proud of the fact that Coastal Community secured 20th position on Aon Hewitt’s Annual Best Employers in Canada list. I offer my sincere thanks to each and every employee for their hard work, dedication and commitment.

I also extend my thanks to our directors for their continuing passion and responsible governance. Their leadership has made Coastal Community stronger, and has ensured that we can prudently balance risk and opportunity, while enabling us to best serve our members, clients and communities. Improving our performance in so many areas in challenging times is no small achievement. It reflects the commitment to our vision, purpose and values by everyone at Coastal Community, starting with the member-elected Board of Directors who is responsible for setting our direction.

Looking to the future—I’m confident that Coastal Community’s strong governance, financial strength, continued dedication of our outstanding employees, and our relationship-based focus on earning the high trust of members and clients, will continue to ensure our success as the leading financial institution based on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Together, let’s do great things.
